Scientists are researching the effects of technology on individual brains. They wish to know the effect of the Internet on brains. Five university research teams from USA, UK, and Australia have stated that neuroplasticity could have a significant influence on human brains. Young adults and children are most affected since they still have developing brains. WHO recommends not more than one hour of screen time for kids less than five years of age.

Capacity for concentration and attention, social cognition and memory processes were the areas under review. By analyzing previous findings, this team could find results in each sector. Harvard, WSY, Oxford and Manchester University researchers took part, with findings published in World Psychiatry journal. Digital multitasking abilities did not enhance multitasking abilities in the real world and increased distraction-proneness. Joseph Firth of NICM HRI stated that notifications and prompts from Internet caused divided attention to become the norm.

Memory studies found that humans are now able to concentrate on ambitious tasks since memorizing facts wasn’t required anymore. Spatial memory was also impacted since most people now check online for navigating routes.

Social interaction studies showed real-life interactions and online interactions to be processed similarly. However, youngsters were susceptible to rejection feelings and peer pressure that arose from social media interactions. Links between mental health conditions and internet usage weren’t found but those with mental health issues could be helped via social media. Older adults who feel isolated, however, could be positively affected by social media.

However, all research done so far has to be backed up by further studies. Dr. Torous of HMS stated that much remains to be learned about digital world impact on brain health. While benefits were found, risks followed as well. He believed that Internet usage could alter brain structure & functioning along with societal social fabric.

Professor Sarris advises reducing online multitasking, more real-world engagement and practicing mindfulness. Internet access could be restricted among children via various apps. Talking to them about their exploitation, cyber-bullying episodes or addictive behaviors could reduce adverse outcomes as well, he added.

About $150 million is to be invested by General Motor on its Truck Assembly Plant in Flint.

The company is planning to spend its investment to step up its production of heavy-duty pickups, GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado. The money will be spent on factory conveyors and other tools related to it.

Mark Reuss, the GM President has commented on his new investment saying that this is a tremendous opportunity to grow in heavy-duty pickup truck business.

He claims that the new Chevrolet and HD pickups are strong, tough and capable as heavy-duty pickups and the Flint team will be able to meet the challenge to produce world-class products that will bring in growth.

The GM Assembly plant at Flint has been pumped with around $1.6 billion investment right from 2013. With this allocation of money, the factory has been able to increase its pickup vehicles by 40,000 units per year. Additionally, 1,000 new jobs have been provided early this year. Production capacity has been increased in the factory.

The 2020 heavy-duty models Chevrolet Silverado and Sierra will be shipped to dealers by this week. Their styling details are different. One factor that is most differentiating is that Multipro tailgate of Sierra HD has six different settings, which also includes its functioning as a workbench and a staircase.

There are more body styles coming. The regular Sierra HD is the regular one with room for a backseat and is handy as a hard-working truck.

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have had high volume sales, up by 20 percent for the first quarter of 2019, when compared to the previous year sales volume.

With this investment in Flint and Fort Wayne, GM intends to strengthen its truck and SUV business. GM opened its Flint Assembly in 1947 and is committed to delivering safer and sustainable ways in using these vehicles.

YouTube has upgraded its hate speech guidelines to prohibit more kinds of clips from its service. They clearly comprise those glorifying or promoting Nazi philosophy or deny that specific events comprising the Sandy Hook shooting or the Holocaust took place. Consequently, YouTube will eliminate a number of videos and channels below the renovated rules.

“Now, we are taking one more step in our hate speech guideline by specifically banning videos blaming that a group is better in order to justify segregation, discrimination, or exclusion on the basis of qualities such as gender, age, caste, race, sexual orientation, religion, or veteran status,” it claimed in a blog post. It also bans clips that market hatred or violence against groups or people based on nationality, disability, or immigration status as well as “victims of a primary violent occasion and their family.”

YouTube did not offer any instances of the videos or channels that might be banned. The policy upgrade arrives as YouTube is involved in yet one more controversy about the occurrence of hate speech on its service. It declined to pull clips posted by a right-wing commentator blamed of assaulting a reporter with racist and homophobic comment.

On a related note, after a substantial amount of public disgracing, YouTube declared this week that it will no longer let Steven Crowder (controversial conservative commentator) to make profit from videos on his channel. The move follows after the firm refused to pull a sequence of videos posted by the YouTuber in which he employed bigoted and homophobic language to refer Carlos Maza (Vox writer).

“Upgrade on our sustained review—we have banned monetization of this channel,” the firm claimed to the media in an interview. “We came to this decision since a pattern of egregious measures has injured the wider community and is against our policies.”

Walmart is grappling to discover talent in a tight jobs industry. So the vendor is getting to high school students with a new idea: Work for Walmart and we will cover your college tuition and SAT prep. Walmart declared this week that it will extend its $1 daily college advantage to its future high schoolers and present high school students who work at the firm.

It will also provide almost 7 Hours of college credit free of cost to high school students and offer free ACT and SAT prep via an associate network. Next, Walmart will subsidize the price of students’ books, tuition, and fees at 6 non-profit colleges, comprising the University of Florida.

Students who go via the initiative while they work at the firm will be entitled for different kinds of associate and bachelor’s degrees, such as business management, computer technology, and supply chain management.

Unemployment in the US has dropped to its lowest level in years, causing a challenge for Walmart and other leading vendors. As the job openings rate for retail sector remains above the national standard, Walmart has increased its minimum salary, extended the benefits, and began to pay bonuses to employees who restrict their absences.

Yet, Walmart is seeking for new methods to entice new talent. The retailer is the biggest private employer in the US. It has over 1.5 Million employees in this nation, but not more than 25,000 of them are in high school now. That is below the retail sector average, entry-level as per Walmart.

On a related note, Walmart earlier launched its answer to one-day shipping by Amazon for Prime users. The retail behemoth’s NextDay delivery service earlier launched out in Las Vegas and Phoenix last month, and will be accessible for online users in Southern California over the coming months.

Former CEO Andy Puzder of CKE Restaurants has criticized Senator Bernie Sanders fight for higher wages.

He says that Senator Bernie Sanders policy on raising minimum wages will kill economic growth.  Instead, he should shift focus to encouraging economic growth. Puzder in his talk with Charles Payne on Making Money on Wednesday says no such legislation is necessary to be passed by the Federal Government.

Senator Bernie Sanders, the Democratic Presidential Candidate has been protesting against the minimum wages paid to Walmart workers. He demands a boost in minimum wages to $15 an hour. Other giant companies have also been asked to raise minimum wages.

Former CEO Andy Puzder however, says that wages grow with economic growth. This growth is more powerful than the minimum wage bill passed by the federal government. This growth is already seen in wages in retail businesses and for those working in hotels and restaurants.

But proposals like those from Sanders will kill growth, he says. He feels that legislation is not necessary and it would become irrelevant by the time it comes into effect.

Further, Puzder believes that President Trump’s policies on the capitalist free market will make the economy grow on its own, which in turn will make wages go up.

Puzder continues his thoughts on minimum wages, saying that Walmart has to increase its wages even if there is no minimum wage imposed if it has to remain in the competition.

If Walmart wants the best employees, it has to increase its wages, even without government laws. Only then can they compete with workers at Amazon, Costco, and Target.

Target says that it would reach the stipulated minimum wage by 2020. Amazon has boosted its pay to $15 per hour last year to its warehouse workers.

$15 per hour will become superfluous by 2024, when the proposed bill by the Democrats may take effect, says Puzder.

Jeff Bezos had a brief interruption to his ‘fireside chat’ interview by Jenny Freshwater, Amazon’s Director of Forecasting. The interruption was caused by an animal rights activist by the name Priya Sawhney working with ‘Direct Action Everywhere’.

The security team seized her immediately; this happened at the Las Vegas held Amazon’s Re: MARS conference. But Jeff Bezos continued unfazed with Freshwater, picking up from where the conversation had stopped.

He began talking about his forecast for the future decade when he was asked to though he was quite against the idea of forecasting the future.

He felt that robots who could grasp anything from objects to humans would be the regular norm in the future. Besides, there would be great leaps in AI, machine learning and biotech in the coming ten years.

Bezos however, brought to everyone’s notice about the increased frequency of being asked about the changes that would occur in the future and stated that none focused on things that would never change in life. He talked about its importance and felt that thinking about the latter would help in better organization in life and give richer dividends in future.

He also talked about lunar exploration being the focus of Blue Origin, his space company which aimed to take astronauts back to the moon through a lunar lander being built by them. He visualized Earth as a planet meant for residing with a shift of all heavy industry away from Earth. A shift to space, he felt would help to save our existing planet.

When asked on the possibility of Amazon Fulfillment centers forming on the moon, he said that he had not given a thought to it. He felt that they would begin by transporting liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. This he said would be an extremely small selection; a very significant one though.

Chances of flight boarding pass denials are up. Although having had the lowest bumping rates for a while, the first 3 months of 2019 saw travelers being denied boarding at their peak rate from 2017, as per the Transport’s Department’s data. This was mostly caused due to the ban on Boeing’s 737 Max airplanes fleet. These airplanes are numbered around 70 in active service.

Two crashes in Indonesia & Ethiopia within a span of 5 months, which were both 737 Max’s, saw the FAA and other travel authorities ban the jets. 346 passengers were deceased in total.

Southwest Airlines and American Airlines, which had around 58 of these jets, posted above-average rates of bumping, caused by the ban hurting their results. This was informed to federal officials, as per the Transportation Department’s report. As per AA spokesperson Feinstein, bad weather was also a major factor.

United Airlines took stringent measures to prevent bumping after the David Dao fiasco in 2017. The incident had sparked massive outrage on social media and was a PR disaster. Oversold flight passengers were alerted early for rebooking and compensation was enhanced for bumped passengers.

United, Southwest and American Airlines had to cancel numerous flights with no signal from the FAA as to when the ban would be lifted. Airlines are preparing for a busy travel season.

Bumping rates are still low, at around 0.32 for 10000 passengers. This is high, compared to the previous year where it was 0.15 for 10,000 passengers.Q1 saw 6175 passengers get denied boarding involuntarily. This is three times the number when compared to last year, but still low, considering 195.7M passengers travelled these 3 months. This rate is about those people whose flights are involuntarily bumped by airlines and not about those who reschedule their flights when it’s overbooked.

It has been found by a milestone study that, a revolutionary drug, which enhances existence for women with breast cancer might delay development of prostate cancer in men. According to the British trials, the handling that can be too cast-off to treat ovarian cancer may help up to four-thousand men each year, postponing the moment when the illness develops fatal. Charities said that they were very thrilled regarding the discoveries from the research conducted by the Royal Marsden Hospital and ICR, Institute of Cancer Research.

Olaparib, the drug is previously subsidized on the NHS for women having ovarian cancer powered by BRCA gene mutations and will shortly be established for its usage for breast cancer. Afterward Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, the injured DNA has been named as the Jolie gene, who experienced ovary removal and double mastectomy to cut the risk of cancer. Now, it has been found by the research that, the handling worked in nearly 80% of men having prostate disease, and were undergoing from similar mutations. The sickness was delayed by the drug for an average of 8 months, even though the patients had progressive disease.

Additionally, one among three were permitted of development for almost one year. Doctors said that, the handling from a class of drugs known as PARP inhibitors can develop the 1st to use gene directing to compete prostate cancer. They believe the handling that works by discontinuing cells from revamping themselves later radiotherapy or chemotherapy might be obtainable in Britain in the upcoming two years. Probably, almost every year 47,000 men are analyzed with prostate cancer in UK, causing 11,000 deaths. The tumors of 592 men was screened by the study, and found almost one in four had variations in two or more genes linked to injured DNA, most frequently due to mutations of BRCA.
